Vision for Victory ... World Class Living History Centre for Prestonpans

Battle Trust 1745 commemorates a great Victory in Prestonpans

Prestonpans 1745 Battle Trust today offers for public consultation its ambitious plans for a Living History Centre in the community. Not only will it tell the story of Bonnie Prince Charlie's Victory in the context of the century long Jacobite Cause but it will also provide that long awaited 'permanent home' for The Prestonpans and Scottish Diaspora Tapestries.

Our story in The Pans is of the Hope Victory and Ambition of a young man of 26, Prince Charles Edward Stuart, with a bold and positive vision: to regain the thrones of his father as King James VIII and III. Much has rightly been made of the consequences of his tragic defeat at Culloden, commemorated but two days ago, April 16th. That remembrance will forever continue. But our heritage and tradition here in Prestonpans is of The Prince's Victory - and the extraordinary local, national and international impact that Victory had.

The Vision for Victory, and the Trust's Path to Victory targeted for 2023, is the outcome of a thorough evaluation funded by the National Lottery Heritage 'Resilience' Fund and donors. It externally audited all that the Trust has achieved since 2006 and conducted a comparative study of successful battle centres across the UK and beyond. These two foundations have given the Trust the confidence to make these ambitious proposals which are now laid before the public for its verdict. Feasibility studies suggest some 80,000 visitors can be expected every year.

Open Public Consultation in Prestonpans Town Hall Wednesday May 8th from 2/9 pm

Please have your say at the website and encourage friends and colleagues to join in too. What's planned will be a significant driver for the community for many years to come creating employment and countless projects in the arts and heritage. The Trust has already majored on theatre, re-enactments, painting, song, embroidery and literature … and a bronze equestrian statue, Scotland's first and only of The Prince, is planned for the Centre.

If you have more to say to the Trustees, and wish to meet with them, come to the Town Hall between 2/ 9 pm on My 8th. Friends of the Tapestries will be there too from 6.30pm onwards ....
