Battle Trust adds 'Final 4' Interpretation Boards across The Pans

Heritage Lottery Grant brings final benefits to The Pans

It seems an age ago that the Battle Trust received a £50,000 Your Heritage Grant from HLF. In fact it's approaching four years. It has taken that long to be certain exactly where the initial skirmishes took place with the major archaeological study by Glasgow University's team led by Dr Tony Pollard. And until we knew that we couldn't get the descriptions correct on the Interpretation Boards. Now there are a total of seven, and the last four have just gone into place as shown below. The one by the Battle Cairn gives the ideal overview of them all.

The four boards here, above and below, include artwork created for the Battle Trust by Kate Hunter and Andrew Hillhouse over the intervening period!

.... and as to the other three locations, here are the clues ... i.e. at Bankton House, Preston House/ now the Community Centre/ and Cockenzie House - click on the images to enlarge.

To see them in all their glory, as well as the earlier three at Tranent Churchyard, on the Waggonway, and at Seton Collegiate ... well ... you'll need to walk the battlefield walk!

Thanks again to Arran Johnston for the artwork involved and seeing them firmly established around the community.
