BATTLE TRUST NEEDS NEW PRINCE CHARLIE ICON
The Battle of Prestonpans Heritage Trust is urgently seeking a new iconic image of Bonnie Prince Charlie.

The recent admission by the National Galleries of Scotland that their famous painting of Charles by Maurice Quentin La Tour is probably actually of his brother, Henry, has prompted a crisis at the Battle Trust which has used this image extensively in recent years.

LOCAL BODIES ASK COUNCIL FOR ACTION ON BATTLE SITE
The Battle of Prestonpans Heritage Trust and Prestonpans Community Council have lodged a petition with East Lothian Council demanding action to improve the site of the famous 1745 battle.

JACOBITE INVASION OF EAST LOTHIAN SCHOOLS
Children in East Lothian are getting a unique insight into the 1745 Jacobite rising, thanks to a new programme of visits by the Battle of Prestonpans Heritage Trust.

The project is in response to serious concerns nationally about the lack of knowledge of Scottish history among young people.

BATTLE WEEKEND HAILED THE BIGGEST AND BEST YET
This weekend's events to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Prestonpans were declared by the organisers to be a great success and the biggest and best yet.

Now in their third year, the re-enactments attracted over 100 redcoats and Jacobites who fought a valiant battle in front of an audience of 500-600.

BATTLE WEEKEND IS BIGGER AND BETTER
The Battle of Prestonpans re-enactments are bigger and more action-packed than ever this year, with over 100 re-enactors and six mighty cannons taking part.

Organised by the Battle of Prestonpans Heritage Trust, the celebrations are now in their third year and take place in Prestonpans on 18 and 19 September, marking the anniversary of the famous battle which took place on 21 September 1745.

BATTLE HERO'S SECRET LIFE REVEALED IN NEW DRAMA
Colonel Gardiner is best known as the clean-living local hero of the 1745 Battle of Prestonpans, but a new play to be staged in Prestonpans reveals his debauched early life of wine, woman and song.

Colonel Gardiner: Vice and Virtue is written by BAFTA-award winning playwright Andrew Dallmeyer. It is being staged at the Prestoungrange Gothenburg at 7.30pm on 23 and 31 July, as part of the Homecoming Prince?s Loyal Clans exhibition and events programme.

PRESTONPANS EVENTS BRING BATTLE CLANS TO LIFE
An exhibition and variety of events will tell the story of the Highland clans who fought with Bonnie Prince Charlie at the Battle of Prestonpans.

The Prince?s Loyal Clans takes place between 18 and 31 July. Most events are at the Gothenburg on the High Street in Prestonpans, but there are storytelling walks of the battle site and re-enactments as well.

AN OPEN INVITATION TO ARCHAEOLOGY DIG IN PRESTONPANS
Archaeologists investigating the Battle of Prestonpans are holding a special Open Day on Saturday 6 June at the Prestonpans Community Centre.

Visitors will be able to see them at work and join in a range of battle-related events, including re-enactment displays, a demonstration of how a cannon of the time worked, and battle gaming on a specially-made scale model.

PRESTONPANS BACK GARDEN ARCHAEOLOGY DIG
Saturday 30 May will see archaeologists descend on back gardens in two streets in Prestonpans, East Lothian in search of artefacts from the Battle of Prestonpans. They also hope to find remnants of Preston House ? where some say the Jacobite rebellion was originally plotted.
