A Fowler's Drought is Nigh ... but the future is bright!

Fowler's - Famous Since the '45

The Fowler's microbrewery at The Prestoungrange Gothenburg has been in action since 2004 and has slated many a thirst. Its 80/- and Porter in particular have won CAMRA acclaim; and don't forget the annual brew of the Fowler's famed Wee Heavie.

All this has been achieved by a young brewer, educated at Herriot Watt but with Fowler's in his genes. Not surprisingly his talented performance with us since 2005 at Fowler's has made him the target of other envious microbrewers and he is now off to join the Black Isle in Ross-shire. We are monumentally sad to lose him, but of course we can only wish him the very best there and throughout his career. He has shown us in The Pans how to honour the town's heritage brewer, Fowlers, by making great real ales. His succesor as Head Brewer will have to achieve or exceed Craig's established standards or we shall all be very disappointed. [Good news is that Craig will still be showing his face around town in the years ahead since his parents stay in Gullane.]

Next Step Forward will include Bottling

The next step in the growth and development of Fowler's here in The Pans will be when considerably greater capacity than the present 240 gallons/ week is installed so that bottling as well as cask ales can be included in the range. It's vital for the enterprise's profitability that this step up is taken. It can be expected just as soon as the debate with Lidl about the Auld Fowler's HQ is resolved this year. Until then The Gothenburg confirms it will of course carry great real ales for its discerning drinkers but alas they wont be Fowler's after about two weeks from today's date when Craig's final casks run dry.

So, be advised, if Craig's ales have been greatly to your liking these past four years, get swiftly along to The Goth to get the taste to remember during the coming drought!
