Like Telling a Good Story? Here's The Chance to Tell More!
Prestonpans 1745 Battle Trust is Looking for 'More' Volunteer Story Tellers ...
The Prestonpans 1745 Battle Trust are initiating a series of Workshops on Storytelling which Tim Porteous will be leading. Their aim is to identify local story-telling interests and skills and then get together a storytelling project which will involve local people in telling Tales of Prestonpans past and present as well as the history of the Battle.
The battle itself was a brief moment in the history of The Pans. Yet the significance of historical events cannot be judged by the time they took to take place, but rather the impact they had on the course of events and people's lives.
The workshops will therefore be looking not just at the brief narrative of the battle, but its impact on the people of the area, and the stories that come from that. You most certainly don't need to be a expert or even have great prior knowlege. What fundamentally you need is an interst in discovering the stories of people who lived, worked, fought, died or passed through our ancient town, and have in some way left their memories or experiences as tales for us to tell.
You don't need professional experience in storytelling either. The Workshops are designed to develop your skills and confidence in storytelling of all different types. It is hoped that the project will lead to a storytelling event connected to the re-enactment, and Tim also plans to make short storytelling movies, which we can then upload onto YouTube, thereby advertising the heritage of our town to a wider audience.
You will have fun [Tim guarantees that] and also learn to make movies if you fancy that. Also each of us will also have a skill, an interest or information which others won't, and sharing these will be part of the Workshops. There's no pressure however, just do whatever you feel comfortable with.
The first workshop session is planned for Saturday 21st August at 10am, venue to be confirmed but almost certainly at The Prestoungrange Gothenburg.
