Miners' Gala Musical on Tour ... in aid of the Pans Miners' Memorial Statue

Ros Parkyn reports:

THE MINERS' GALA - A MUSICAL SET IN THE 1920s
It toured to The Acorn Centre in Leith on Monday 6th June @ 19:30 ... and @ more venues too!

The Miners' Gala, written by Andrew Dallmeyer, arrived at the 3Harbours Arts Festival performed by the Prestoungrange Players at Prestonpans Community Centre. Entry was by donation - with all contributions received going to Prestonpans Miners' Memorial campaign.

Music by Davy Steele was included. It was 'workshop-ed' late last year but has now returned as the full version for an East Lothian tour.

What's it all about then?

It's set at a Miners’ Gala Day of the 1920s with Panners and Belters deeply involved. There's plenty of amusement and singing, 'unrequited' love ... and the necessary twist in the tail.

After its 3Harbours premiere to a large audience in the Pans Community Centre on May 31st, the musical went on to tour venues across the Lothians. The tickets for these tour performances were £5 / £3 concessions and children under 5 free. All proceeds from the Tour went to help further swell the funds to get the Miners' Memorial sculpted. More than £500 was raised for the Fund and the sum was then doubled by the Barons Courts Charity.

The Tour performance dates were:

* Monday 6th June 7.30 pm - Acorn Centre, 1 Junction Place, Leith.
* Wednesday 8th June 7.30 pm - Gullane Village Hall.
* Sunday 12th June 3.00 pm - The Power House, Mining Museum for Scotland, Newtongrange
* Monday 13th June 7.30 pm – Pathhead Village Hall.

What the critics said ....

'It's great community art, written especially for The Pans/ Tranent, that captures the atmosphere of long ago Miners' Gala Days. Everyone can join in the songs! The artistic accomplishments of the Prestoungrange Players continue to improve so a great evening's entertainment and suspense awaits!'
