'OUR' Derby Moment: 3.30 pm December 2nd

Will We Falter or Shall the Campaign Go Forward?

As most of the Heritage Trust's Supporters will know well, when Bonnie Prince Charlie convened his Council at Exeter House, Derby, December 1745, it was resolved against his better judgement that his Highlanders would return to Scotland rather than pressing ahead to London at that time.

The 'Derby Moment' for our Campaign is to be 3.30pm Saturday December 2nd 2006 in precisely the same room, the Panelled Room of Exter House, where The Prince so fatefully met with his Council 261 years ago. As Trustees and with advice from many Supporters we will meet for our 'own' Council. Progress thus far will be reviewed and we shall make our own decisions 261 years on to the day.

We are delighted that Arran Johnston, whom we first met on the Prestonpans Battle Bing last September 20th, and who has characterised Bonnie Prince Charlie for several years now at the Derby Jacobite Celebrations each December, will be with us as will more than a few score Highland friends.

Anyone who can reach Derby over the weekend of December 2nd/ 3rd will not be disappointed with the festivities. They begin at the South Bridge, the farthest point that the Jacobites reached, with a skirmish to regain control from the Hanoverians on Saturday morning. They then continue till Sunday afternoon.

Wreath Laying & Telling of Our Campaign

The Trustees will participate directly in the events by invitation when laying wreaths on both the Cairn at The Bridge and at the Statue of Bonnie Prince Charlie. And the opportunity to pass around details to one and all of the burgeoning Campaign in Prestonpans will not be missed.
