St Andrew's Story Ceilidh .... arbinger of a 'next' art form in The Pans ...

Another Artform Emergent with the Arts Festival ...

Tim Porteus is already well known to many in The Pans and he's a 'registered' Story Teller with the National Centre at Netherbow Port on the Royal Mile. And in late summer 2010 he began gathering together a group of like-minded people who wanted to improve/ develop and use their skills as story tellers too. It was this group and members of Tim's wider circle that offered the Arts Festival's first Story Telling Ceilidh at The Goth to celebrate St Andrew's Day. And they already have Burns-tide in their sights for their next such Ceilidh.

Premiere of Maggie's Body as a bonus ...

... after the story telling ceilidh which focussed especially on the Battle of Prestonpans telling the goings on at Tranent Manse and of Fowler's visit to watch the battle from Pittenweem ... and more from the floor ... Tim showed how close to story telling theatre truly is with the premiere of a short play he had written, Maggie's Body in which he co-starred with Andy Powley,Suu Ramsay and Ally Mitchell. A black humoured love triangle if ever there was one but greatly enjoyed by a goodly crowd.

National Story Telling at Netherbow Port and St Mary's Cathedral and much more beckons for 2011....

Working with the Battle Trust and the Prestonpans Tapestry the story telling group will be at the National Centre mid February and at St Mary's Cathedral during The Fringe in August as well as in June/ July. And there is no doubt there'll be many another occasion when Tim and the group will be out and about - as well as 'in training'. [Amongst Tim's many talents is his HGV licence and he'll often be seen in 2011 behind the wheel of the BattleBus which the Group will be using as their mobile hub.]

Why not join the Story Telling Group?

If you'd like to join The Pans Tellers get in touch with Tim Porteus as soon as you can. Maybe it's your New Year Resolution to do what you'd always felt you might/ could ... the email link is timporteus@hotmail.com .... or just leave word at The Prestoungrange Gothenburg with Gillian Hart or any one of the staff there.
