So Vandalism and Hypocrisy Rule in the Pans. But it's NOT OK

The saddest day for a long while in The Pans

Nicholson's of Glasgow sent a giant demolition crane to The Pans today to demolish the Auld Fowler's HQ. And they earnt their 30 pieces of silver. Our architectural heritage they demolished is shown below. [The pictures of the pile of rubble we'll spare you for a moment.]

'Not worth keeping' says Historic Scotland'.

'Historic Scotland tell me what to say, and I'm not disagreeing' says The Minister.

'We can issue demolition authority as we please' says East Lothian Council Building Control. And we can ignore what the community in Prestonpans thinks.

'We're elected to run their town for them. We might say in our political manifesto that we are going to listen to local communities but in practice that certainly doesn't mean we'll take their unanimous views on board.

'We should not stand in the way if Lidl seeks to maximise the profit from the lands they bought from Coeval in The Pans. The fact they said they would retain the Auld Fowler's HQ when we agreed to their present glass store on the site doesn't mean we hold them to their word.'

'Why don't you protesters simply go away. Now it's been demolished, just forget about it all. And incidentally, we're far too busy with far more important things to find time to respond to your emails or letters. And even when we promise we will, we don't actually do what we promised.'

So we lost the battle, now for the rest of the war. We'll give no quarter and take no prisoners. Making a fool of the community in The Pans has a high price attached to it and those who frankly let The Pans down are due to pay it. And we are starting with the Public Services Ombudsman's inquiry. Let's see what he makes of it all.
