Michael McVeigh Virtual Exhibition

Newhaven, The Great Michael

The sailing galley, the Great Michael was commissioned by James VI, King of Scotland. All the forests of Fife were used in constructing this amazing craft around which Newhaven harbour was built. The galley was never used but sold to France just before James VI became James I of Great Britain.
